Yes, I know it’s early in the season and school just started but it’s time to start thinking about Fall 2018. If you have an incoming nursery, pre-k, or Kindergarten age child, this is especially for you.
Those who wait don’t get to pick their choice school. They get to pick what’s left because space may run out.
Don’t expect the schools to find you. They don’t know you’re here. YOU have to do the work by visiting the school websites, making calls, and attending open houses. Many of which are held this month.
Is there universal pre-k in Valley Stream?
But if you’re lucky and live in District 14 (Gibson area of VS/Hewlett) or zoned for Alden Terrace in N. Valley Stream, there is a program available to you. It’s part-time so don’t get too excited. But it’s something.
If you have an incoming 7th grader, you have until February to submit your waiver if you’re choosing to waive out of your zoned school. Forms were mailed in December. If you’re sending your kid to a private school outside of VS, then you can submit a request for transportation by April 1st. (Check your district’s website to confirm)
