I just realized that I’m doing a poor job in keeping you updated on what’s going on over here lately with the kids. When they were younger, I would give you a play by play of their development. But now that they can read, Google, and have access to the Internet at (mostly) times, I’ve been tight lipped about what they’ve been up to. You know, I don’t want to tell all of their business.
They both have been enrolled in Tae Kwon Do ever since February of this year I believe. I’m thinking about getting them a belt holder for all of their belts for Christmas. My husband is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in TKD and he couldn’t wait until they were old enough to begin training. As of now, neither have been to any tournaments. I don’t know how I’ll personally react to their first tournament, but I’m pretty sure it will be close to a hot mess. I’ve seen all of the Karate Kid movies.
My son is a baseball fanatic. He knows something about everything, most players, and even will spit facts about classic games. It’s annoyingly amazing, but he will never be that guy who has absolutely nothing to say when it comes to sports. He’s almost the same way with football too. This is all because we took his Nintendo DS away from him one summer for two weeks. You should try it with your kid.
My daughter really likes playing the viola, but hates practicing. Don’t most kids? God forbid she has to put down Super Mario Odyssey which she always plays on her Nintendo Switch. However, when we went to pick up my son’s saxophone from a music rental store, her eyes lit up when she saw the Star Wars music book. Hey, whatever it takes. They now take lessons both at school and privately. I hope there’s a return on our investment.
They have both been thriving at swim class. Goldfish Swim School has been nothing short of amazing. If you have one in your area, please try them out. I give it two fins up.
My daughter was invited to join the Math Club at school which took some urging. We discovered that she decided on her own to decline the invitation. She was talking about someone else in the club when it slipped that her NWEA scores were high enough to score her an invite.
We don’t turn down academic opportunities a’tall so you better believe she is officially a Math Wizard. And she gone like it.
The kids are both in Girl and Cub Scouts which takes up all the Fridays right now. Hard to argue with this because of the skills they are learning. My daughter is earning a babysitting safety patch as I type. One of her favorite books is The Baby-Sitter’s Club which I think she’s read multiple times.
Because of how busy the kids have become, it’s harder to make everything work. I truly hope that once my oldest starts middle school the busy will ease up a bit. It’s to the point where I am starting to get confused about where they are supposed to be on which day and time.
Something may have to give sooner or later.
