I’ve been through the elementary #BTS thing for seven times now so I’m self qualifying myself to give a little advice for the first day of elementary school. Now, next year when my oldest starts middle school it’ll be crickets over here because I’ll know absolutely nothing.
But for now, here are a few things to consider on the first day of elementary school:
Bus Pick Up/Drop Off – Be patient with your driver. New year. New kids. New route.
Drop Off – Give yourself time to get to school. No u-turns today (or ever) because you could kill a kid. We don’t want that to happen at all. Also, don’t double park. I really hate that and it disrupts traffic. I hate that too.
Lunch – Pack a lunch the first day. It may take awhile for the line to move until the lunch staff and younger grades get the hang of the lunch thing. Send plenty of water.
School Supplies – Don’t break your kid’s back. Send in some of the important stuff today. Leave the cleaning supplies and paper towel for the following day.
Pick Up – Give yourself enough time to get to the school and get a good parking spot. Park legally. No double parking. Did I say I hate that? Give yourself time to find out where your kid will come out. Also, your teacher doesn’t know who you are. Give her time to find your kid in the commotion and then find you. Smile! You may be judged on your first impression. (This goes both ways)
Be sure to pack alot of patience. You’ll need it. And then it all starts over again tomorrow.
