One of the most asked questions I’ve been hearing in this town of ours centers around the opening of the Valley Stream Pool. This is the center of excitement for the entire summer. It’s like we have our very own country club where there’s a pool for the littles, splash/sprinkler pool, lap pool, and diving pool for everyone. There’s even an unofficial section for the seniors.
While many, if not all of your questions regarding the pool can be answered here including hours of operation, who wants to read through all of that?
Some of the frequently asked questions are:
When does the pool open?
The pool opens June 10th – September 4th, but be sure to check the daily hours which vary the first few weeks of the season.
When are Swim Team tryouts?
June 10th & 11th @ 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the pool (hours vary). You can just show up. Be ready with a check when you do. It’s a nominal fee but you will have to purchase a team suit, etc.
When does the swim team practice?
Practice begins daily, rain or shine June 12th from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. (you can try out then too)
How much are pool passes? (See below)
CHD is short for Central High School District. Basically if you live in Millbrook, N. Valley Stream, and parts of Malverne, you will be paying the higher rates because you don’t pay village taxes.
Do I need a park pass to play in the park now?
Pretty much for Kay Everson as long as the pool is open. The others….well. Not really.
How can my kid join the Aquatics Club?
If you don’t know what this is, it’s basically synchronized swimming. Tryouts and first practice take place on June 10th at 12 p.m. There’s even an evening show in August they put on for free!
Can I just come and swim for the day without getting a pool membership?
If you come alone and live in VS, you are required to purchase a park pass in addition to your daily pool ticket admission. The bright side is that you now have a season park pass for your family. I was told today that pool members (ages 16+) can bring in two guests, but the photo above days one guest.
Can I buy a pool parking pass for the summer?
No, they aren’t for sale individually. You’ll get a temporary parking sticker when you purchase a pool pass.
Can I bring in food?
Yes, but you’re not supposed to eat it near the pool for state health reasons. However, you can take it to the designated eating or the park at Kay Everson and enjoy it on the picnic tables.
Do I need a swim diaper for my little one?
Yes. PLEASE put a swim diaper on your baby. Each year, several times a yearsome lovely resident breaks the rules and allows their non potty trained tot to swim or splash without one. And then they pooh in the pool messing causing the pool to close down messing up everyone’s day. Let’s not do that, m’kay? If you forget one, I hear they have them available for purchase in the pool house.
