I recently attended a special event hosted by one of my favorite children’s brands, Stride Rite. The event was held at 1 Hotel in Manhattan near Central Park around the area where I used to work about 10 years ago. Not only was it great to visit the city for the day and walk around my old stomping ground, but Stride Rite reminded me of how great their shoe line is for kids.
I haven’t shopped Stride Rite in quite a while because my daughter had this crazy growth spurt over the last few years and grew right out of Stride Rite’s shoes overnight. She’s now a half size larger than me. Yikes! However, I totally forgot that my son, who is a size kids 5, can still wear their collection.
On display was a great selection of shoes that immediately took me back to my childhood. Remember those hard white walker shoes that your parents made you wear as a tot once you began to walk? Well, of course you don’t actually remember wearing the shoes, but I bet you remember seeing them at one time. My aunt actually bronzed my cousin’s shoes and put them on a shelf in their home next to his baby picture!
No foot could bend in those shoes, nor could toes wiggle. We walked like little robots. Well, that shoe has transitioned significantly and is making moves in the baby shoe industry. You’ll see in just a second.
Yes, many of the brick and mortar stores have closed in our area, but they have made it easy for us to size our kids as we shop the collection online. You can print the size chart here, shop, and your little one will be on his/her way in style in no time. I also understand that they have a brand at Target.
SRtech Bailey Collection
This collection for new walkers is all but about hard shoes. Today, it’s about soft shoes, wide openings for chunky feet, and secure closures for shoes that shouldn’t fall off every waking moment of the day. I remember those days of searching for lost shoes in the neighborhood, mall, or church. You name it! These retail for $44 – $49.
Soft Motion Collection
If you have a new walker, you’ll want to remember this. Soft Motion is perfect for your kid because they are flexible, have rounded soles or better balance, memory foam for comfort, and have secure closures to help keep shoes on. They also have a Juice Pack collection that comes in colors that resemble your favorite juice. These retail for $38 – $42.
As the kids grow, I know I can appreciate machine washable shoes of any kind. How often do you send your kids to school with new kicks on only for them to come home covered in mud, dirt, or stained? This stresses me out every time, yaw’l! Now, we can just toss any of the sneakers from their Made2Play collection right into the washing machine which should also wash your stress away.
The Phibian Collection
It’s camp season and the paperwork asks you to have the kids where sneakers, right? But then your kid tells you that they ran through the sprinklers or they’re going to do water play or even go to the beach. Wait….I know what goes through my head. What type of shoe should the kids where? I’ve seen the Phibians and it looks like the perfect choice for camp or a day filled with road/water activities. These shoes are quick dry, machine washable, slip resistant, and take you from land to sea, law to sprinkler without having to wait for your little one to take them off/on all day long. These retail for $30-$38.
Have you ever heard of such a name? Me either! As I kid, I remember wearing these large, chunky boots that made you feel like you were walking on the moon. Well, Stride Rite has the answer to that with the Snoot. It’s a sneaker and a boot all in one! Catchy, right? They are machine washable, waterproof, keep little feet warm up to -25 degree weather, and are east to put on and take off. Available Fall 2017 and retail for $65.
I don’t know about you, but this current collection from Stride Rite is absolutely winning right now. I know my time is limited as a Stride Rite mom, but I will always be a fan. They’ve been around since 1919 so I’m sure they’ll still be around when my grandchildren make their entrance into the world in about 20 years and not a moment sooner.
*Some of the collection will be available Fall 2017
