By now, you probably know that I’ve been working with Goldfish Swim School in Garden City where the kids have been taking swim lessons since February. To catch up, you can read this post, this one, and this one.
When it comes to my children’s activities, I can be a little snobbish. Gasp! Not only does the program itself have to be in line with our needs and desires, but the facility has to meet our standards. Over the years, we have suffered for 30-60 minutes in inhumane conditions where my newly styled hairdo fell due to high levels of humidity. My stylist isn’t cheap so this makes a sistah mad when my hair falls. Not to mention how much my eyes would sting due to the excessive amounts of chlorine.
But let me tell you about Goldfish Swim School. The facility is extremely clean, kid-friendly, brightly lit, and most of all it’s not humid. I kinda think they did their due diligence in finding out what bothered and excited parents the most about swim lessons for kids and fixed it.
8 Reasons to Love Goldfish Swim School:
1. Rescheduling is SOOOO easy!
How many times has your kid become ill literally 15 minutes before class and you had to cancel? The first time I had to reschedule due to a conflict had me like, what? It’s that easy? They just slipped us into another class to our liking and that was it. They have plenty of options and dedicated instructors!
2. Moving Up is Faster!
Unlike many other swim programs, my son has already advanced 2 levels since beginning instruction in February. Usually, in other programs we would have to wait until after the 6 or 8-week session to get evaluated for advancement. It took me off guard each time because I just wasn’t used to it. Not only is he learning fast due to great instructors, but it’s also building his confidence as he advances. (Advancement varies according to each child)
3. Activity Stations for Kids
While my son clearly isn’t interested in coloring at all, my daughter draws here all the time. Your little ones won’t get bored waiting for their sibling to finish their swim lesson. They have coloring/activity sheets along with crayons sitting on a little people’s table in the middle of the room. There’s a fish tank with 2-3 turtles swimming in it which could capture your little one’s attention for the entire duration of the lesson. (see photo at end of post)
4. Changing Rooms
I remember having a heated conversation with a mother at a local swim facility that didn’t have enough co-ed changing rooms. I have both a boy and a girl so I can’t always take them into the lady’s room together and I wasn’t sending my then 6 year old into the men’s restroom alone. There were naked women and men in these public locker rooms where we used to swim! Senior citizens too! But at Goldfish Swim School, there are enough changing rooms for everyone! Not once have I recalled having to wait for a changing room.
5. Onsite Store
Did you forget your child’s swim diaper? Goggles? Swim cap? No problem! They have items available for purchase on site so you don’t lose your mind when you realize that you spent the last hour getting ready, packed the swim bag, and then drove 15 minutes to class only to realize your kid doesn’t have all of their swim gear.
6. Swim Team Class
I haven’t heard one complaint yet from my daughter about the drills she has to do for swim team class. Her improvement is evident and she’s enjoying herself. I do wish there were more options for this class which would be my only complaint. Although the pool is only 4ft deep, she’s getting the coaching that I felt she has always needed. The instructors are in the pool with the kids instead of yelling order from the pool side in dry clothing. Her moves are being corrected. Her confidence is building.
7. There’s Free WiFi!
How many times have you sat at your kid’s activity and there was no free WiFi? I think it should be a standard rule to have free WiFi in every child’s activity space. It makes the time go by alot faster for both you and your little one who has to wait for their sibling to finish, doesn’t it? Especially when there’s a meltdown and there’s ALWAYS a meltdown.
8. Electrical Outlets Everywhere!
Small victories, folks. This is huge for me. I have often neglected to charge my laptop or Kindle before heading to one of the kid’s activities. Productivity killer, right? As many activities as my kids are involved in, I need this time to get work done. The fact that there are outlets in the floor amazes me. Our own library doesn’t even have enough outlets. Simple solution, folks.
