One of my absolute favorite times of the year is happening this weekend in Valley Stream. The village comes together for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the Village Green (in front of Henry Waldinger Memorial Library) this Friday, December 2nd at 6:15 p.m.
The activities begin right at 6 p.m. at the library. Children, and some adults if that’s how you roll…, are invited to write letters to Santa at this time, but write quickly because Santa’s on his way! I have to admit that it was pretty exciting to see Santa himself arrive into Valley Stream on a fire truck!!!! There’s no snow right now and we all know that reindeer can’t land Santa’s sleigh without snow so why not arrive in style on a fire truck? He makes his grand entrance at 6:15 p.m. so get there early for a good spot.
Following that, take a short walk over to Village Hall where you will enjoy a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Mayor Fare, enjoy a few holiday treats, and have a photo taken with Santa. You can even watch a holiday movie! In past years, one of the bands from a local high school were also on hand to provide musical entertainment as well. I’m not sure if that’s the case this year.
Schedule of Activities:
Letters to Santa @ Waldinger Library – 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Santa Arrives – 6:15 PM
Tree Lighting – 6:30 PM
Photos with Santa – 6:45 PM
Holiday Reading by Mayor Fare – Ongoing after the Tree Lighting
Santa Returns to the North Pole – 8:30 PM
Are you planning to attend? If you can’t make it, keep watching the blog. Check here for a complete list of other tree lightings in our area coming up.
VSMomTip: Get there early because the line to take a picture with Santa can get a little long. Another tip to eliminate ants in the pants of your kids is to have one parent/adult sit with the kids during the movie/reading while the other stands in the Santa line.
