We’ve been in school maybe now for two weeks and it’s time. Open House is this week in my district and for any of you new moms who don’t know or moms who seem to “forget” to bring cash to Open House, consider this a warning. The PTA knows that this is probably the first and maybe only time they will ever see you is during Open House. Bring cash and be ready to fill out a few forms. Just be ready. Please….it’s par for the course.
After that, many of you will go ghost. Not like in Ghost from Power (OMG, are you addicted too?), but you know what I mean. I know you’re thinking that you don’t have time for the PTA, it’s filled with drama, fighting, politics, etc. Well, yes for some (ok, most) that may be true, you still need to not only attend the meetings, but more importantly pay your dues. The meetings are where you find out the stuff most parents get pissed off about later. Too late!
Why? Because it helps the school in so many ways. Not only that, but at some point your kid will come home with a trinket here or there and you won’t know why. It’s because the PTA thought so much of not only your student, but the entire student body and rewarded them for something or for no reason at all.
But not only should you join the PTA (physically or in name only), but you should also pay your kid’s class activity fee. In our school, it’s just like…I dunno $5 – $8. I should know because I’m the class mom for both kids. Yes, both and I am still in denial, but such is life.
Unless you want to be harassed by both the Class Mom AND the PTA, who you never want to cross for fear of being black listed (like on Bravo’s “Mother Funders”), just bring the exact cash and/or bring a check. Wait, does that really happen?
Are you going to your school’s Open House? What’s your PTA story?
