July 4th is just a few days away and people are already asking about what they should expect to see and do during the fireworks. I’ve been to so many fireworks displays, that it gets to be a little redundant year after year. But I have a few tips for you to freshen up the experience:
1. Invite some new friends to experience it with together for the first time and create memories
2. Pack a themed picnic basket like a Mardi Gras style basket complete with beignets, jambalaya, and virgin Voodo Punch. That’s no fun, right? At least your tummy will be happy. Don’t dress in the Mardi Gras colors because that would be unpatriotic.
3. Host a block party and tailgate before the fireworks which will bring a whole new experience to the err…experience.
If you decide to set off your own fireworks display in your backyard or in the middle of the street, please be mindful of your neighbor’s small children, dogs, and me. I’m not trying to hear any snap, crackle, and boom a minute past the official finale. It’s annoying, rude, and most likely illegal.
But if you decide to light some firecrackers anyway, here’s a short video that will help you stay safe and what to do if you get burned. Because, you know…that’s a possibility.
Happy Independence Day!
