Unlike last year, the weather is supposed to be beautiful for The Valley Stream Memorial Day Parade which is one of the biggest events that happens here in Valley Stream. The community comes out in full effect to honor those who have fought and died for our country.
Our veterans, community organizations, elected officials, school bands, sports clubs, firemen, all come together in one big parade. It’s a great way to see all of Valley Stream in one setting while celebrating those who serve/served our country.
Fire Department will leave from the house on Rockaway and March to the village green. Memorial Service will begin around 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The parade takes place on Memorial Day at 9:30 a.m., begins at Wheeler Avenue Elementary School and ends at Village Hall.
Street closures usually happen at 9 a.m. Secure your spot on the street early, bring a chair and some snacks and drinks.
Come on out, wear your red, white, and blue and don’t forget to practice your wave. I’m sure you’re going to see someone you know.
After the parade, join in on a brief memorial service where our local heroes will be honored. Be forewarned that a few gunshots will occur afterwards. If you have small children, you may want to find a shady spot a little ways away.
See you there!
