The Memorial Day Parade is like one of the biggest events that happens here in Valley Stream. The community comes out in full effect to honor those who have fought and died for our country.
Community organizations, elected officials, school bands, sports clubs, firemen, and of course our living veterans all come together in one big parade.
What would be cool to see, and I don’t know if it’s been done or not, would be to see the dogs from the VS Dog Park come out and walk the parade.
OFFICIAL UPDATE BY 8:30AM
Fire Department will leave from the house on Rockaway and March to the village green. Memorial Service will begin around 11a-11:30a.
The parade takes place on Memorial Day at 9:30 a.m., begins at Wheeler Avenue Elementary School and ends at Village Hall.
Street closures usually happen at 9 a.m. Secure your spot on the street early, bring a chair and some snacks and drinks.
Come on out, wear your red, white, and blue and don’t forget to practice your wave. I’m sure you’re going to see someone you know.
After the parade, join in on a brief memorial service where our local heroes will be honored. Be forewarned that a few gunshots will occur afterwards. If you have small children, you may want to find a shady spot a little ways away.
See you there!
