I was all set to write about a great lunch spot I found in Williston Park this week, but all that has been pushed aside to tell you about how I found Heaven on Earth. Literally. I heard about this new doughnut spot in the next town over called Doughology. It kept coming up in my Facebook group so I had to check it out.
My husband worked from home that day so before I left to run an errand, I asked him if he wanted me to pick up some lunch. He declined so I kept it moving. I had every intention of stopping to pick up a sandwich but found myself near this doughnut spot that was all abuzz. Parking was very easy so I saw it as a sign.
While I walked in, I ran into another Valley Stream mom who shall remain nameless….but I quickly asked her if it was really all the rage. She swore by the oreo doughnut she tried that was nowhere to be found. Not a crumb.
I chose to sample the strawberry frosted drizzled with chocolate and the apple strudel. I was not ready. I had no idea there were fresh out of the oven. I also didn’t appreciate that the apple pie filling was just how mamma likes her filling.
I think my eyes almost popped out of head as she prepared my doughnuts. She told me to be careful because they were very hot. After I paid my $3 and some change I couldn’t stop myself from saying, “That’s it?” I told her that she needs to raise her rates and this is before I took my first bite.
I went to the car and had every intention of heading to my next stop, but I remembered that the doughnuts were still hot. I had to try them. Dunkin Donuts doesn’t serve you hot donuts.
Do you see my face? This is me just smelling the pastries the moment I opened the box.
I cut into the apple one first. Yes, I used a knife and fork. I almost lost it. I cut into the strawberry one. I lost it. I really tried to close the box, but I couldn’t. I felt so guilty because I knew my husband would not get to experience this with me. Poor thing. I tried to keep it from him but the moment I got home he asked, “What did you have for lunch?”
Dang……why did he have to do that?
I confessed. I felt guilty but promised that I would take him back with me. This weekend.
You have to go. I promise you will not be unhappy. I went about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. I was the only one there. Who eats donuts midday? The 10 people who lined up behind me do. What’s the perfect time to go? I can’t tell you that but they recently added a number system just like the neat market. Grab your number as soon as you enter.
Just go and thank me later.
Doughology is the mastermind of a Chris (husband/former cop and doughnut connoisseur) and Jackie (wife/former stock broker) team who are changing the face of pastries. And our waistlines. Each Wednesday, a portion of the proceed goes to Breast Cancer organizations in honor of Jackie being a breast cancer survivor.
