Every morning as I drive my son to preschool, I see an unusually long line of people waiting to get into Premier Care which is where we usually go for urgent care. This flu thing is out of control!
I swore off the flu shot over 10 years ago and have been reluctant to get it ever since. I got really sick days after receiving the vaccination. Although I can’t recall if I got the shot or not during both pregnancies, I got it this year. I didn’t plan on it but I’m so glad I did during my annual physical. I’m also glad I didn’t leave the pediatrician’s office a few months back without having my kid’s vaccinated.
I hate needles especially when I have the option to have one inserted into my body. The kids? Well, it takes about three nurses and myself to hold my daughter down. My son, he’s a little easier but after watching his sister go first, well it didn’t go so well this time. But neither of the kids nor my husband or I have gotten ill. Thanking God AND knocking on wood.
Last Friday my daughter said at least six classmates were absent and/or went home from fever. I’m glad she wasn’t one of them. During pick up last week many children were hacking all over my kid as I gently moved him away…but they kept coming closer. Really? I wanted to yell, “Take your germs and beat it,” but my home training showed up just in time. I just gave a few moms the evil eye instead. I wonder if they noticed. I wanted to yell at some of the moms who didn’t put hats on their kids, brought their babies out with no socks and light jackets last week. It’s 40 degrees people. Really?
A few ways I have stopped the flu at the door is every time my kids get in the car, we sanitize our hands. When my daughter gets off the bus, she takes off her coat, shoes, and hat and immediately is shooed into the bathroom where she washes her hands with soap and water.
Gotta do it. If you or your children are exhibiting symptoms, early intervention is always best. Don’t wait to see if it’s the flu. Chances are pretty high that it is.
Did you get the shot?

Pregnant Women Need a Flu Shot

I got the flu shot last year because my baby was a few months old. The last time I got the flu shot before that was about 12 years ago when I was pregnant for the first time. I got very sick and ended up miscarrying. I always thought that the flu shot might have had something to do with it. I am conflicted about getting the flu shot now but I am leaning towards yes – when my doctor gets more in stock.
